The origins behind the Mercedes-Benz brand started back in 1890 with the founder, Gottlieb Daimler. While Wilhelm Maybach and Emil Jellinek took over the company (then called Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft, or DMG) in 1890, Daimler’s legacy was carried on by his sons, Paul and Adolf, for years to come. The iconic Mercedes-Benz 3-pointed star didn’t come into the picture until 1909, when the brothers came across a postcard sent by their father in 1872 that marked the location of their home with that distinctive 3-pointed star. With this discovery, the 3-pointed star was acquired by DMG and became the symbol for these impressive vehicles. The progression of the logo then developed over the years. What started at a blue Mercedes-Benz 3-pointed star was revised with a laurel border in 1926. Then, in 1934, it became the silver star we recognize today.
