However, you may be wondering about the history of Mercedes-Benz, and who owns this line of luxury vehicles. Learn more about Mercedes-Benz and Daimler AG, their parent company, with Mercedes-Benz of Warwick in Warwick.

The Parent Company: Who Owns the Mercedes-Benz Corporation?

For drivers in Providence who are wondering who owns Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz of Warwick has the answer! Mercedes-Benz is owned by the German company Daimler AG, an automaker who produces a wide variety of upscale, luxurious vehicles such as buses, motorcycles, and cars.

They’re known for creating luxury vehicles with state-of-the-art engineering and technology, and they oversee a range of companies and products that also includes Mercedes-Maybach®, Daimler Mobility, and more. The company’s headquarters are in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, but other branches like Mercedes-AMG® are based in Affalterbach, and elsewhere.

Mercedes-Benz History

  1. In 1901 Karl Benz created the first Mercedes-Benz car, the Benz Patent Motorwagen, and marketed it to the public.
  2. The Benz Patent Motorwagen was the first gasoline-powered vehicle that was made available to the public.
  3. Although only individuals with significant salaries could afford the car, it revolutionized how people saw “horseless” vehicles and their potential for how we could travel and work.
  4. As Karl Benz was selling the Benz Patent Motorwagen, in 1902 Austrian automobile entrepreneur Emil Jellinek trademarked the name “Mercedes” after his daughter Mercedes Jellinek.
  5. As a Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (Daimler Motors Corporation) businessman, Jellinek worked to promote the potential for horseless vehicles and sell them to those in high society.
  6. Jellinek was selling “Mercedes” brand cars to billionaires such as Rockefeller, Astor, Morgan, and Taylor, which made sales soar in upper social circles.
  7. The 3-pointed star that would become the Mercedes-Benz logo was introduced in 1909.
  8. In 1926, with the success of the “Benz” and “Mercedes” vehicles still building, Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler merged their companies, and the first genuine Mercedes-Benz vehicles were produced.
  9. Daimler and Mercedes-Benz have spent more than 100 years walking hand in hand, leading the luxury automotive market forward.
