The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA and the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC are both luxurious five-passenger SUVs with plenty of power, but they’re not identical twins. Some of the most important differences between the GLA and the GLC include:

  • The GLC is more expensive.
  • The GLA offers more engine options.
  • Only the GLC is rated to tow heavy cargo.
  • The GLC has more cargo space.
  • The GLC includes more impressive standard features.

Ready for a closer look? Our in-depth 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA vs. GLC comparison has all the details.

GLA vs. GLC: Price Range

The GLC is larger, more powerful, and better-equipped than the GLA. Accordingly, it also has a higher starting price:

  • 2022 GLA 250 SUV: Starting at $36,400 MSRP*
  • 2022 GLC 300 SUV: Starting at $43,850 MSRP*

With that said, both models cost about the same amount if you move toward the top of the lineup. That’s partly because the GLA is offered in two unique AMG® configurations, while the GLC is only currently offered in one.

GLA vs. GLC: Performance

Although the GLC has traditionally been offered with stronger engines, the two models are actually closer in power output than most East Greenwich and Providence drivers might expect. Compare the engine options of both models to find the build that’s right for you:

2022 GLA Engine Options

  • 2.0L inline-4 turbo with 221 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque
  • AMG®-enhanced 2.0L inline-4 turbo with 302 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque
  • Handcrafted AMG® 2.0L inline-4 turbo with 382 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque

2022 GLC Engine Options

  • 2.0L inline-4 turbo with 255 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque
  • AMG®-enhanced 3.0L V6 biturbo with 385 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque

It’s also worth noting that the GLC can tow up to 3,500 pounds. The GLA is not rated for towing.

GLA vs. GLC: Cargo and Passenger Space

If you often travel solo or don’t need lots of room for cargo, the sporty GLA may feel like a better fit for your Cranston and Warwick drives. On the other hand, those who tend to make use of every inch will appreciate that the GLC offers more room where it counts—especially in the cargo area:

  • Front Headroom: 39 inches
  • Rear Headroom: 38.1 inches
  • Front Legroom: 41 inches
  • Rear Legroom: 38 inches

GLA vs. GLC: Key Features

Based on the above, the differences between the GLA and the GLC may not seem so pronounced! You’ll need to check out each model’s suite of standard features if you want to get a better sense of why the GLC costs more than the GLA:

  • The GLC comes standard with a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The GLA has a standard 7-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch digital gauge cluster.
  • Only the GLC includes a standard FrontBass system for superior audio quality.
  •  The GLC comes standard with PARKTRONIC® with Active Parking Assist and Blind Spot Assist with Exit Warning Assist. Both features cost extra on the GLA.
